Having a rose forever is a lovely thought. Unfortunately, when fresh cut, the real thing never lasts quite that long. If you're lucky enough to live in a place that has warm temperatures year round, having a rose forever is a distinct possibility.

Growing roses is a time consuming and difficult process, not to mention their short shelf life after they're cut. Roses that are hand-crafted from crystal, gold, silver, and porcelain, however, is always another option to having a rose forever.

The transformation of the rose flower from the wild plant it started out as, to the 30,000 varieties that exist today, is quite remarkable. If these amazing specimens had the title of "a rose forever," it would be fitting for a flower that has been around for some 35 million years. Roses today are generally divided into two groups by the experts: roses that were cultivated in Europe prior to 1800 are called 'old roses,' and those that were cultivated in England and France around the turn of the 19th century are called 'modern roses.' The only color of roses up until the beginning of the 19th century were different shades of pink and white. In China, in 1800, the red rose was first introduced. Green roses began to appear a few decades later. In 1900, yellow roses became part of the color palette. It was Frenchman Joseph Permet-Ducher, who discovered them by accident; in the twenty years he had been cultivating roses, he had searched for roses that were yellow in color. He came across a mutant yellow flower while in a field one day and as a result, both yellow and orange roses have existed ever since. It would only be fitting that a rose forever of yellow coloring means joy and gladness Mr. Permet-Ducher likely had these very same feelings following his chance discovery.

Every holiday or occasion, every year, gifts tend to come and go. The gift of a rose forever, however, is truly a reality given the different materials roses can be purchased in. Roses, no matter their color, have always been given to express a particular sentiment - even in the ancient civilizations of Greece and Rome, roses were used to express feelings of love for thousands of years. The same can be said today.

A rose forever is unsurpassed in its beauty and since it can be chosen in a variety of materials and colors, you can never go wrong when choosing one, or two, or three. If you happen to live in a place where snow blankets the ground for much of the year, as the seasons change, choose a rose forever of different colors to display in your home so as to commemorate the transition. It can serve as a reminder that summer is not so far off and that soon enough, roses will once again be in bloom.
