A router is nothing a networking device whose software and hardware are usually tailored

to the tasks of routing and forwarding information.We can say on the Internet, information is directed to various paths by routers.

The router connect two or more logical subnets, in which it is not requiresd map one-to-one network to the physical interfaces of the router while wireless router doing the same function without cables. There are two types of routers are available , Simple router and wireless router.

Routers connect two or more logical subnets, which do not necessarily map one-to-one network to the physical interfaces of the router. The term layer 3 switch often is used interchangeably with router, but switch we can say ,is a general term without a rigorous technical definition. In marketing usage, it is generally optimized for Ethernet LAN interfaces and may not have other physical interface types used with routers.In comparison, a network hub does not do any routing, instead every packet it receives on one network line gets forwarded to all the other network lines in order to perform routing operation.In enterprises, a core router may provide a backbon interconnecting the distribution tier routers from multiple buildings of a campus, or large enterprise locations. They tend to be optimized for higher bandwidth.

When an enterprise is widely distributed with no central locations the function of core routing may be subsumed by the Wide Area Network service to which the enterprise subscribes, and the distribution routers become the highest tier.
