A Short Guide To Dubai By Ewan Sherriff.
The haven of Dubai is known throughout the world as a paradise on Earth
, and is the second largest of the 7 emirates which together make up the United Arab Emirates. Dubai is ruled by the Prime minister of the federation of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Dubai is a young city which has had an amazingly swift rise from sparse desert in the early 1990s to a bustling metropolis of over 3 million people less than two decades on. Around 80% of Dubais population consists of Expatriates. The religions of Hindu, Christianity and Muslim are prominent with only around 5% of the population practicing other religions. The official language of Dubai is Arabic but English is very commonly used, especially in business dealings.
Adjusting to the climate in Dubai can be very difficult due to high average temperatures (50F - 120F) and an almost non-existent annual rainfall.
Hospitality standards are extremely high in Dubai and holidaymakers are spoiled for choice when it comes to finding a hotel. The worlds most luxurious accommodation can be found in Dubai and indeed the is probably what springs to mind when many people think of the area.
For those thinking about a more long-term visit, there are various reasons to consider relocating to Dubai full-time. One of the many people who have taken the leap in recent years is Scottish lawyer Ewan Sherriff. Mr Sherriff has a long, successful career behind him in the UK concentrated mainly in the commercial sector, and made the decision to move to Dubai with the Sherriff family in 2009. Ewan has the following to say about his move;
Having long held an interest in the Middle East, travelled there and transacted there we decided to relocate the family here at the beginning of 2009, looking for a fresh challenge and a better way of life. The Sherriff family finally moved here in April 2010 and we have not looked back. The children are well integrated at school, have made some great new friends and thoroughly enjoy every part of Dubai..
I am greatly enjoying the change of lifestyle myself working with a terrific bunch of people at my new office, learning a new legal system and facing new challenges every day.
