A Sight For Sore Eyes

Ever wondered how our eyes work? How the human eye functions is quite an incredible process. In fact, the camera is an invention inspired by our very own eye. Our eyes and the camera almost work the same way.

The process begins when light enters the cornea of the eye. Cornea is the clear or transparent part covering our eyes. We can say that the cornea is the counterpart of the lens cover in a camera. The cornea is responsible for bending the light which enters the eye and directs it to the little hole in the center which is called the pupil. The cornea also shields our eyes from possible harm.

Next, as the light passes through the pupil, the iris, the colored part that surrounds the pupil, adjusts the amount of the light that comes in. The iris works as the shutters of the camera. It increases the size of the hole to let more light enter, and decreases its size so that little light would enter.

After the light is being modulated by the iris, it is then directed to the lens which focuses the light to an amount that can be captured by the retina. The retina is located at the back portion of the eye and is also the one responsible for creating the images by converting the photoreceptor nerve cells into electrical impulses, which in turn, is sent to the optic nerve in the brain. The retina can be compared to a film of the camera. And when our retinas are damaged or impaired, they can be protected and corrected by wearing safety eyewear.

See, our eyes are one of the most marvelous parts of our body, so it's only right to protect them. Wearing safety eye wear would lessen the odds of our eyes getting harmed. Not only do we protect them from physical blows, but from small particles that could possibly damage our corneas as well.

Safety eyewear is not something that only people with sensitive eyes use. It can also be used by people who have minor eye defects such as nearsightedness or farsightedness. Our eye is miraculous as it is important, so we should learn to properly take care of them.
