A Simple Guide Through The Different Types Of Perfume

It is believed that types of perfume fall into 6 main categories

. Everybody seems to have a favourite. But which perfume type is yours?

-Floral - The largest and most popular perfume type is known as floral and is predominantly made of flowers, hence the none-too-imaginative but completely appropriate name. Roses, orange blossoms, gardenias, jasmine and carnations are blended together to create unique and endearing sensory bouquets.

-Oriental - These exotic, alluring perfumes are heady mixes of spice, amber, balsams and resins, creating warm and sensual fragrances which are particularly complimentary during winter because of their often rich and musky traits.

-Citrus - Again, while they might not have a snappy group name, citrus perfectly describes this type of perfume; derived mainly from lime, lemon, tangerine and mandarin. Their sharp, tangy aromas are naturally refreshing and uplifting; perfect for the woman who does not want to wear an extraordinary or overpowering scent.

-Chypre - French perfumer introduced this concept when creating a scent based upon his impression of Cyprus (Chypre simply being the French name for the island). Chypre scents are woody, mossy and natural, with bergamot, oak moss, citrus and patchouli enhancing sweet, but earthy aromas.

-Green - Sharp, grassy notes are fused with pine, juniper, leaves and herbs to create lively, sporty fragrances for women who belong outdoors. They are brisk, lively and memorable scents to complement active lifestyles.

-Fougere - French for fern, which is one of the predominant ingredients, Fougere perfume is a more commonly masculine concept though there are popular and bestselling fougere perfumes for women. Fresh herbs and mossy ferns are combined to create natural, yet often modern and urban fragrances.

There is a huge array of different fragrances around. Everyone has their favourite but most poeple would be surprised at the variety and the formal categorisation that goes on within the industry.
