A Thinning Hair Treatment Straight From Birds

Hair loss could be the bigger picture of a thinning hair

. Regardless however, these conditions are quite alarming. Thankfully, alternative medicine is there to help. But just as we thought that the alternative thinning hair treatment techniques only involve the use of certain herbal oils, it is when we discover a therapeutic oil that isnt derived from herbs but from animals, particularly from emu birds.

Endemic to Australia, the emu is an ostrich look-alike long-legged flightless bird that can grow to about six feet tall. Since ancient times, emu birds have been one of the Australians favourite sources of meat and oil. Natives claimed that its oil has many medicinal and cosmetic benefits such as a remedy for

hair loss or thinning hair treatment.

How It Is Processed

Emu oil is processed from the birds fat in the back skin. Once separated from the meat, the oil has to undergo filtering, refining, sterilising and deodorising to make it safe for commercial use; otherwise, it may still contain contaminants and bacteria that may compromise the health instead.

What It Does

Like any other fat, the emu oil is composed of a variety of fatty acids (mostly oleic, with small traces of palmitic, linoleic and stearic acids). The natives believe that chemistry of emu oil make it good for the skin and hair. It is believed to improve skin cell regeneration and revitalise the hair follicles on the scalp. Both of these processes contribute to hair growth stimulation. Aside from that, emu oil is suitable for all types of hair and is an excellent moisturiser.

How to Apply

As a thinning hair treatment, pour a small amount of oil on the palm of your hands and rub your hands together. Then, rub your palms against your hair. Also, put a few drops of the oil on your scalp and massage for better penetration. Next, cover your hair with a towel or a shower cap. Leave it for at least 10 minutes and rinse it off thoroughly with shampoo.
