A Tour Of Scotland Makes For A Fantastic Holiday

When people think of a two week holiday, the thought that often comes to mind is

somewhere hot with golden beaches and a warm sea, which is generally the reason why the term fortnight holiday and Scotland are not often used together. It is not that the beaches in Scotland are not beautiful, but more for the fact that due to the milder weather and the sights and attractions that are most prominent in Scotland, city breaks are more often the most popular choice.

However, there are a substantial amount of people who do take a holiday of a week or two in Scotland, not to lie on a beach for the full length of the holiday, but to tour the entire country.

Wherever you go to Scotland and whatever time of year it is, there will always be an event taking place. Edinburgh, for example, is practically non-stop with festivals and entertainment throughout the summer months. Similarly, Glasgow has an extensive amount of festivals all throughout the year, including the popular Comedy Festival in March and the Jazz Festival in June. It can be a difficult process trying to ensure that on your tour of Scotland you are in a certain town or city at a certain time to see a specific event, but it can put your mind at rest to know that you will never be bored or have nothing to do.

Depending on where you start your tour of Scotland can affect the route which you should take for the rest of your holiday. Wherever you start, it is highly recommended you book into one of the many Scotland Hotels that fill the country at the start of your visit and as well as at the end of your holiday. This is so you have a relaxing time to begin with and a comfortable place to lay your head after what can be a tiresome tour.

Many people who tour Scotland do so by starting in the capital city of Edinburgh and working their way around the coast in an anti-clockwise direction, jumping into the centre of the country whenever needed, allowing for almost all of the major towns and cities, as well as popular tourist attractions, to be included and visited easily.

For example, starting in Edinburgh, you could spend two days here exploring the city, visiting the castle and if you visit in August, taking a look at one of the many festivals which take place.

From Edinburgh, you could move north to the next of the six cities in Scotland, Dundee, taking the time to soak in the many historical and cultural aspects, most notably the rich literary heritage of the city.

Next on the itinerary could be Aberdeen, another of the cities in Scotland, where the history and beauty of this city can be taken in by simply walking through the streets and visiting the many award winning gardens that are in Aberdeen.

Visiting Edinburgh, Dundee and Aberdeen provides a great foundation for any tour of Scotland and the remainder of your journey should be planned suit to your needs and your individual interests.
