The famed university town of Cambridge, England offers a lot to see and do for the traveler who'd like to get a taste of historic England in a relaxing and beautiful setting.The old city is centered around University life, but there is plenty to captivate the non-student paying a visit to this quaint and peaceful city. The historic architecture of King's College Cross Chapel and the Cambridge University library are but two examples of Cambridge's famous buildings. Gothic and other period architectural styles can be seen in this city which combines the old and the new in a harmonious way.

The gardens along the river Cam, which snakes through the city and the university grounds are called "the backs" and a worth a visit alone. Take a leisurely stroll along the shady banks and experience the flower-filled idyllic gardens that are the back yard of the various institutes of learning. Or better yet, do like the locals do and hire a "punt" and push yourself along the river with a pole in a flat-bottomed boat. Punting is a famously popular activity in Cambridge and the river is full of punters during the warm months. Trickier than it looks, punting is nevertheless a fun, must-do activity for the visitor to Cambridge.

Cambridge has its share of world class museums and other attractions, making the city a great place to explore. See masterpieces by painters including Ruben, Renoir, Titian Degas and Picasso at the Fitzwilliam museum. The museum also contains an important collection of antiquities and other art. Kettle's Yard is another fine museum that houses the Ede collection of mostly modern and contemporary artworks. The Sedgwick Museum of Earth Sciences is the oldest of the Cambridge University museums and contains over one million fossils in its collection.

The are accommodations in Cambridge ranging from budget-range to luxury hotels. Cambridge is home to a youth hostel, several guesthouses and other mid-range accommodations. The Doubletree Hilton Cambridge, located on the river Cam near Queen's College and the Fitzwilliam Museum is currently offering a promotion called "Cambridge Punting Break", which includes two nights at the Doubletree Cambridge Hilton Hotel, a free dinner and a punting trip on the river. The offer runs until the end of December.
