A Visit to Salou

Salou, a seaside resort that is about 10Km from Tarragona on the Costa Daurada, has many of the kinds of facilities that tourists expect, such as sandy beaches, mild climate and things to do. It has some of the best theme and water parks on the Mediterranean and any tourist would be sure to have a memorable time in this wonderful place.

The Promenade

Salou has long stretches of white sand beaches, with an interesting feature being a series of coves that dot the smooth expanse of sand. The Salou Promenade runs near to the biggest beach called the Llevant and is a good place to take long leisurely walks while enjoying the brisk, clean sea breezes.

The Torre Vella

One monument that you should not fail to visit is the old defense tower called the Torre Vella. Erected in 1530 as defense against attacks by pirates, the tower is a rectangular concrete building that looks strong enough to withstand attacks even today. The Archbishop of Tarragona erected this fortress at a time when Salou was home to a nest of pirates that preyed on shipping and settlements all along the Mediterranean coast.

Port Aventura Theme Park

One of the best theme parks is the Port Aventura park that once belonged to the Universal Studios chain. It claim to fame is the Dragon Khan, a massive roller coaster with eight inversions built by Bolliger & Mabillard. Another of the attractions is the nightly multimedia show called the Fiesta Aventura, a display of fireworks, floats and other features that is bound to surprise and delight you.

The Furius Baco

Another roller coaster that was put into service in 2007 is the Furius Baco. It has now earned the name of being the fastest roller coaster in Europe. The long turns that are large enough to make you hold your breath are mixed with twists and further turns that really give you a run for your money.

The Aquapolis Water Park

The Aquapolis Water Park has something for everyone, from water slides, a wave pool, mini golf, as well as other interesting activities. For the kids, and adults as well, there is the Dolphin Show that will have you marveling at the intelligence of these creatures. Sea lions are also part of another show that is just as interesting as that of the dolphins.

An Ideal Vacation

Salou is truly an interesting vacation destination because of the many activities that you can participate in. It is a resort for the entire family and young and old will find something that they really enjoy. While the younger ones will enjoy the roller coasters the older set will enjoy the theme parks or just sunning themselves on the beach.
