A Wide Range Of Snow Sledges Available To Pick From For Winter Fun

In the past few years weve experienced much colder winters that have brought about

some seasonal snow that children absolutely adore, mainly because playing in the snow presents many opportunities for fun and games whether it is building a snowman, having a snow ball fight or shooting down hills on a sledge. Riding on a sledge is great fun for all of the family and there are many different types of snow sledge now available to pick from.

Since snow only ever arrives a few months of the year, buying a sledge for your family is a wise investment that will last many years of fun in the snow. There are many new designs available to pick from, many of which can make sledging either more predictable with steering abilities or ones which are round, allowing you to not only to fly down the hill but spin around as well.

Traditional sledges

Traditional sledges are the ones you may have seen in old movies, consisting of two rails or skis normally made from metal with wooden slats on top for sitting on. Some models can seat one or two children. They closely resemble husky sleds but its often mum or dad who end up dragging the sled, not the family dog! These sleds are quick due to their small area in contact with the snow and being made from dense woods and metal they are sturdy enough to withstand the occasional bump or knock along the way.

Round sledges

Round sledges made from plastic have also become popular as they are very cheap and durable. They closely resemble bin lids that many people will have used in the past, but being made from plastic or even rubber they are much more comfortable and not likely to cause any harm if you were to fall off them. With them being round and smooth they can spin round during the ride down the hill making for a more unpredictable journey.

Steering sledges/toboggans

A more elegant option is a sledge that has steering, many sledges are available with steering wheels, or ropes that allow the rider to guide the sled down the hill. Some models are actually classed as toboggans and operate in a similar way to the toboggans youll see at the Winter Olympics. Many of the snow versions look like go-karts with rails instead of wheels and may be able to help avoid accidents such as bumping in to others or a tree.

Its important to remember whichever type of sledge you buy that you make sure to supervise children when they are playing in the snow. Sledges should never be used near to roads and there should be sufficient space at the foot of the hill to slow down and not hit anything like buildings or trees.
