Stroll around the city of Birmingham and you'll notice the accents are somewhat different to other cities in the UK; this is because the locals have their own unique accent and dialect. The term Brummie' given to the people of Birmingham actually came from the dialect word for Birmingham which was Brummagem'. Bet you didn't know that!

If you're out and about around the city centre, be sure to take in a few of the best sights Birmingham has to share with its visitors, such as the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. Culture vultures will be able to feast their eyes on some major exhibitions, from fine art to jewellery, archaeology, local history and ceramics. It also houses the biggest collection of works by Edward Burne-Jones. There's something for every interest!

Shoppers will have a field day at the Bull Ring, which is the busiest shopping centre in the UK. It has the fourth largest Debenhams outside of London and one of Selfridges' four department stores. Designed by the architect Benoy, the building itself is a talking point of the city with its unusual futuristic shape.

Chocoholics will feel like Augustus Gloop at Willie Wonka's Chocolate Factory when they visit the popular visitors' attraction on the Bourneville manufacturing site. More than 500,000 visitors check out the chocs at Cadbury World in a one-way guided tour across fourteen zones, telling the story of the chocolate company and the confectionary business itself. It's a great chance for any chocolate lover to find out more about their favourite snack and stuff their face with a few free samples.

If you're looking for something outdoors, Sutton Park in Sutton Coldfield is the biggest urban nature park in Europe, with seven lakes, ancient woodlands and a freight line service to provide a short cut for visitors. Or maybe you'd prefer to peruse the flowers at Birmingham Botanical Gardens in Edgbaston which are open every day of the year? There is also the Winterbourne Botanic Garden near to the city centre which includes an arboretum, a sunken garden and a collection of South African bulbs.

All in all, if you're after a wide range of attractions, there's a packed schedule in Birmingham.
