A concise look at the story of the motor car
In the year of 1752 the next development was plotted in the timeline by Leonty Shamshurenkov
who came up with a coach carriage that had four wheels, but it required pedal power and failed to be transformed into a working motor car.
Then in 1769 Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot modified a horse drawn carriage into a self-propelled mechanical vehicle. Yet, this is a disputed series of events as there is witness testimony that suggests the vehicle was unstable and never functioned.
The automobile, which is hailed as the premier vehicle powered by steam on the road was created in the early 19th century and was known as the Puffing Devil road locomotive. It appears that is particular structure drew heavily on the workings of a train steam engine yet it could not sustain the steam pressure demands needed to work correctly.
The first ever internal combustion engine was implemented in 1807 by Nicephore Niepce and his brother Claude, which they called a Pyreolophore, but it was installed into a boat not a car. The solution to the problem was put forward by Francois Isaac de Rivaz who designed the first car to be powered by an internal combustion engine.
About eighty years later, Gustave Trouve came up with a three-wheeled automobile that was actually powered by electricity and was displayed in the French capital during the International Exposition of Electricity exhibition. The low carbon character of this vehicle was a result of its direct use of a renewable energy component.
Regardless of the fact that the initial hard labour was completed by the gentlemen discussed above, who are not known well in the public domain it was when Karl Benz showed an interest in the creation of vehicles that the car industry gained a sure footing.
In actual fact Benz helped to develop a four-stroke gas engine that was put together in 1885 in the German city of Mannheim. This formed the starting block of his company and three years later a new model of car was on sale.
Unfortunately few cars were sold in that early period - a mere 25 cars were sold in the five year period between 1888 and 1893. Nevertheless, the industry was just beginning back in those days and this diminutive figure was all the firm needed to boost its public presence.
Then a licensing agreement was set up by Benz with Emile Roger, who built and put Benz motor cars up for sale in France. This was one of the first major automotive business deals and helped to make the industry so lucrative, as now the public in two separate countries could buy a car from a single company.
Soon after, large scale production lines were created particularly by Ransom Olds at his Oldsmobile factory and then later by Henry Ford. This was great because it meant that a car could be manufactured by Ford every 15 minutes, which helped to transform them into the largest car company in the world.
It's hard to understand how this tiny commencement the massive industry we now enjoy and make money from would be created. Nowadays we have a plethora of add-on items like air bags, seat belt facilities, booster chairs, hiring options sun roofs. Yet, who knows what the future will hold for the car industry.
