A fun pet gadget I NEVER knew existed
Ever since I was a little boy I have always been curious where my dog "Eboz" would go while I was away from home with the family. Our cat "Cali" would sometimes stay outside for over 3 days before coming home. We would always worry about her and if she was going hungry, got hit by a car, kidnapped. But everytime, Cali would return home happy, and fed.
So what were are pets doing? If only we could of found out. What stories would of came of it. If only they spoke our language, or better yet if we had spoken theirs. Unfortunelty, our family had to just let it be and always "hope" for the best.
As time went on and technology grew, so did the advancment in micro video cameras. It wasn't until a couple months ago that I stumpled upon a product that would of helped answer the life long questions about my pet. "Mr Petcam" as it's called. The worlds first pet point-of-view video camera. Jeez, this was perfect I thought for my present day cat "George." It was only $39.00 so I thought what the hell. I went ahead and purchased the device off the companys website and no sooner than 5 days had past, I recieved it.
What a beautiful and sleek little pet gadget. Weighs about the same as 4 pieces of gum. Just about 2 inches in overall length and straight forward instructions. Came ready-to-run right out of the box.
After giving it a full charge, I attached the camera to George. He sort of looked at it for about 1 minute then let it be. I turned it on, pressed record and let him go about his day. I actually ended up leaving my house to go run errands for a couple hours. When I returned I was happy to see George greeting me at the door as he always does. Camera still attached. I unplugged the memory card from the device and ran up to my computer. After inserting the memory card into the computer I was promptly greeted with the video files. Files? I thought. Why is there more than 1? I played the first which displayed me when I first in the house as I was getting ready to leave. I saw myself walk out the door. George sort of hung out for about 3 minutes starring at the door, went to his food dish, ate a bit, then layed down. After about 5 minutes of him laying there the video ended. Hmmm? I thought. Pressed play on the next video file. George got up from his resting place on the couch and ran outside to through the cat door. Jumped over the balcony railing and down the stairs to level ground. He wandered through the bushes for a bit and chasesed around a couple squirrels. "This is cute" I thought to myself. It wasn't until later in the video that the real eye opener came. George was walking along the small river we have at our apartment complex, then all of a sudden, I heard "psss piss off cat." George turned to a neighbor that lives a couple units down from me. I clearly saw this guy through a rock staight at George (and the camera). George took off running back up the stair case, through the cat door and back home.
Thinking back to myself I thought, this probably explains why George would sometimes come home with a limp. Was it this crazy neighbor guy. Was he the one abusing my pet this whole time? That same day I confronted this neighbor saying if he ever does this again I'll take action. Left it at that. He seem to understand my seriousness.
Later as I read more into the instructions of the device, that it comes with a "motion-detection" mode that allows the camera to only record when your pet's in motion. Ahhh, I thought to myself. This explains why it broke up the video a couple times. It self edits the boring parts of your pet's day out for you. I'm glad. Who wants to see 3 hours of their pet sleeping?
I find I use my Mr Petcam all the time now. While I'm at work, I constantly think to myself what I always use to wonder as a child. What's my pet getting into today? But now with this fun new invention, I will always find the answer when I return home.
