A look at the HTC Magic

The Magic is an impressive HTC smartphone that runs on the well-received Google Android operating system. The first phone to use this system, T-Mobile G1 and it was not without criticism. HTC have taken this on board when designing the Magic, in a nutshell, the answer is "yes".

The Google OS, much of the software included in this unit that Google feel to it. Google Maps, Calendar, Talk and search are only some of the installed apps. And the deeper you delve behind the flashy exterior of the Magic, the clearer it becomes that the magic is the phone for people who like online.

A clear 3.2 "HVGA display a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels, and a capacitive touchscreen, which is fully customizable in terms of brightness and backlight controls and offering a choice of wallpapers. Measuring 113mm x 55mm x 14mm and weighing 116 grams, the device has a slightly thick feel, but it does feel so good made. A built-in accelerometer allows the screen adjusts according to the position of the phone. The trackball is located below the screen, along with six other keys to perform its primary functions.

What really strikes me about the HTC Dream is the ease of use in all departments. Icons can easily be dragged around the screen, or when they fill your screen, they just dropped in the deletion bin .. Apps are arranged alphabetically in a bid to the whole interface as user friendly as possible. Alerts are also grouped all contributing to the profession.

Many people seem obsessed with both manufacturers and the pixel rating of the cameras provide the mobile phones, and this is often an unfair way to judge the cameras performance. Take the HTC Magics 3.2 mega pixel camera for example. On paper, pales in comparison to the much higher rated cameras, but looking purely at the quality of the image itself, the Magic produces a bright and colorful picture. However a dive light conditions then the picture is less satisfactory, but overall it works well for the average cell phone photo, picture message or upload via the Internet. Video recording is also provided in the device. The back of the phone slides to provide access to not only the usual micro SD card slot, but also a removable 1340mAh lithium-ion battery, a nice touch compared to Apple's built affair.

The HTC Magic is a stylish, functional phone. The interface is very impressive and well thought many of the considerations taken in the draft. It is a high specification with the iPhone and Smartphone Palm Pre's rival, and in particular will appeal to users who do not spend time on the Internet, thanks to the Google Android operating system.
