A portrait's magnificent eeriness
The innocents, a local play finally opened and introduced some local actors. And the subject of many strange tales is a portrait, which happens to hang on the set of this show. The one who owned the portrait for so many years prefers to be unknown. For reasons even this owner does not know, she suddenly stopped and parked her car and purchased this photo after it caught her eye.
It was impossible that she could afford it, but she waited there for the clerk to take the picture out of the window for her. She remembered that her kids needed to buy clothes, schools and supplies for school time was around the corner. Rehearsing in her mind, she would tell the clerk that while the piece of art was magnificent, her budget just won't allow her to get it. This lady just had to blurt out, in a very loud voice, that she just had to get the painting no matter her financial situation, and this stopped the clerk from returning the portrait.
The lady, after paying and walking out of the antique store wondered how exactly she allowed herself to buy it when she could not even afford it, and how she was possibly going to explain to her husband as soon as he finds out about her ridiculous compulsion that made her buy that painting. This masterpiece was in oil and was created between the late 1800's or early 1900's, showcasing a Borzoi, a Russian wolfhound. Even though it's a lovely picture, to the trained eye of one who is familiar with the Borzoi, it is easy to see that the Borzoi in the picture, the artist chose to paint in an almost straight on pose, only the dog's head and shoulders. It is obvious, too, that the chest is not proportioned to the shoulders.
It was a strange fact that the woman, whose eyes were expertly trained of how a Borzoi should appear and knew so much about the breed, still went ahead and purchased it. The wife was surprised about how her husband felt so drawn to the painting of the Borzoi the way she was too when she first saw it when she first thought that her husband would get so mad about her overspending instead of spending it for the kids' school needs.
It was the subject of so many photographers and throughout all the pictures taken by both amateurs and experts, no two photographs ever came out to be similar. It was simply bizarre how at some times, a spectral face would appear on the right portion of it, then there would be occasions when the dog in the picture would appear flat while three dimensional in some, but in almost all of the instances mo matter if the portrait would appear to be in color or black and white, strange lights would surface and linger.
I don't agree that some sort of entity came with this portrait, perhaps we just imagine so many things and our eyes make us see stuff from sorts of light reflections, shared the husband when he and his wife discussed the possibility of a supernatural force behind the portrait of the Russian wolfhound. A plate that hung on the wall, which was made of ceramic fell with a crash but surprisingly, it did not break and neither was there a gash in it.
The Innocents play producer director approached the couple who were very happy to loan the portrait to him after he explained that this would be great on his set, as the story he was doing is about the supernatural. They explained that they yearned to know who it is that moved into the house on the day they bought the portrait and they thought too that maybe letting this get used in a production such as the Innocents can enable them to discover what they wanted to learn. They wish that this was true, at least.
