A practical 5 door hatchback for the wife

The Mrs and I have been married now for 3 years; we have 2 kids, a boy 1st and then a girl. While I go out to earn the bread the wife is a stay; at home mum, and she needs to be as the kids are a handful. We always said that after our 2nd child she would give up work and stay at home.

When we met each other nearly 7 years ago we were straight out of University and enjoying single life, no bills (well a few), not much responsibility and the freedom to do what we want when we want. We are both petrol heads, when we met she was driving an MG MGF while I had my Honda S2000, both 2 seater sports cars.

After we got married she sold her MG and got a new MINI, I kept my beloved S2000. When our first child was born we still had a fair bit of flexibility in our lives, we still travelled a little and went out most weekends. The S2000 was becoming quite redundant as I worked in the city and commuted by tube, while in the weekends we needed more than 2 seats. So eventually, after I shed a tear I sold the S2000 but, I took my son for a spin in it first.

With our daughter now here I think we are out growing out of the MINI too, getting the kids into baby seats through the rear seat access is annoying and can be difficult plus we need a twin buggy now too which doesn't fit in the boot. Time for a new car, she wants a Subaru Impreza, apparently it fits all her requirements, I was thinking more of medium sized 5 door hatchback, like the Focus.

Last weekend we decided that I would once again get my own car, its better that way. I gave into her and decided the Impreza will be quite cool but only if we get a sensible car as well. So we checked out a Focus and a Peugeot 307 in Hollingbury a few miles from our home.

We chose the 307 as it seems more practical, is cheaper and we got a really nice deal with the warranty and part exchange for the MINI. We are still looking for the perfect Impreza; it has to be the WRX in electric blue.
