A stereotypical sympathy I am tired of hearing!
"No. Come on, give me a break. Not at all. We can't let bad things infect our thinking, just like that". This is my usual response to those sympathies that our society associates with the burglars who break into the house or the street criminals who after getting caught and showing some hesitation, half heartedly and out of shyness confess. To my surprise most of such criminals when interviewed behind bars hold the joblessness responsible for committing a crime. As minute as stealing and as heinous as burglary or murder, culprits try to defend their crime by blaming our already browbeaten economy and guess what? Most of the cases, you will find they remain successful in defending themselves, if not legally then at least morally. How? Let me elaborate.

Mostly whenever we come across to hear any crime news, our first sympathy rests with the victim. What comes next is the fact how we are washed over by feelings of hate towards the culprits of the society, and then we ponder who really works behind the criminals? Of course it is the increase rate of joblessness in our country. While condemning joblessness and inflation, we are so much driven by the feelings of abhor that we start defending those criminals, putting the entire blame on joblessness. This is wrong! Joblessness may be one of the significant factors in proliferating crime rate, but to entirely blame this factor for the increased crime rate encourages the moral of those criminals, who still think hundred times prior to commit a crime.
This not only increases frustration in the society, but also gives a false hope that goes with the criminals ensuring them what they are doing is right because there is joblessness. They start thinking on the wrong pattern that since there is joblessness, there is crime and unless they don't get a suitable' job, it would be better for them to get engaged in street crime. After all the society knows they are committing because of joblessness.
Crime is crime and should not seek any justification! Putting the entire onus onto the shoulders of society sets in a new path of unlimited crime where the criminal logically tries to justify its wrong doing into something the society has rooms for. A crime must not be defended on any moral basis, whatever be the reason behind the crime, it must be condemned by negating stereotypical concepts.
