How many other shows have survived on television for over 40 years. General Hospital has spent a lifetime entertaining America on a daily basis. Respect should be given for that fact alone. Primetime network sitcoms come and go. Daytime soaps are like a comfort zone, it's dependable programming, like the evening news or morning talk show.

Mothers across the continental United States tune into ABC between 1pm and 4pm Eastern Standard Time to catch a glimpse of their favorite soap and actors. School girl crushes on Tad Martin and Luke Spencer have turned into deep admiration and a love affair. Watching these actors portray their characters for three decades is bound to develop a deep connection between actors and viewers. In high definition these men look even better. The men and women of daytime age like fine wine, they only get better with age. Erica Kane is your classic cougar.

Some of televisions most classic moments were captured on daytime. Anyone who can remember the early 1980s, remembers where they were when Luke and Laura got married on General Hospital.
