ACT! on an iPad? Yes!

ACT! on an iPad? Yes!

There's no denying that Apple's iPad has been a smash hit. People have found thousands of ways to use it for business and pleasure.

There aren't really a lot of business applications for the iPad. Actually, there aren't a lot of ANY applications for the iPad. It's just been found to be wildly popular to viewing text, websites, blogs, you name it.

As more and more people began buying this device, they've been trying to use it for a lot of apps that they've used in the past; whether they're Apple or PC apps.

One app that's come up recently is Sage's ACT! Contact Management software. Can ACT! be run on an iPad?

Well, the answer is a qualified "Yes". There's currently at least 3 methods to use. For the first two apps, you'll need a PC. The third lets you use your Mac.

1.) Use the remote control software app called "LogMeIn". It's been around for quite a while. It's been used to connect remote PC's to each other. Install LogMeIn on your PC, if you haven't already. You can use the free version of LogMeIn. Then, on your iPad, go to the Apple App Store and purchase "LogMeIn Ignition"; last I saw it was $29.99. Once, installed, you can then run applications that are on your PC on your iPad. This includes ACT!

2.) Purchase an application called PocketCloud (www.pocketcloud.com) from a firm called Wyse. It allows to you to connect to an RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) enabled PC. Set up or have your IT support person set up RDP on your computer. It could be a desktop, laptop or server. Follow the instructions with PocketCloud on how to connect to your PC.

3.) If your Mac is running Parallels, the software that lets you run Windows applications on your Mac, you can optionally get Parallels Mobile, an app that lets you run stuff that's on your Mac on your iPhone or iPad. (Here's a link to show you how this app works (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2I-jCY4N9I&feature=watch_response).

So, currently, you have 3 products to use to use your ACT! application on your iPad. Remember, that you'll need to mimic the mouse and occasionally lose some screen space to the pop-up keyboard on the iPad. (The iPad's screen is only about 10 inches.)
