Goals aren't just for New Year's resolutions and job interviews. In fact, setting and keeping track of AEPA test preparation goals can help you determine what you're hoping to get out of the exam, what your weakness are, and how long you'll need to get ready for that looming test date.
Unfortunately, it seems as though many potential teachers avoid setting goals for the Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessments. Worst of all, they think it's harmless: besides, how can goals contribute to raising an AEPA exam score?
What these people don't realize is that avoiding goals is more reflective of how they are as test-takers. And what they don't know could halt their dream to pass the AEPA test.
The Five Main Reasons Why People Avoid AEPA Test Prep Goals
Now, this is just my opinion but considering that I've been an AEPA test coach for almost two decades now, I've seen my fair share of procrastinators and avoiders. And I've narrowed down these quirky behaviors to five reasons why people avoid setting AEPA test study guide goals:
They're just not serious about getting their Arizona teacher certification. I've learned that until you become absolutely 100% dedicated to your goals, you'll undermine your chances at AEPA test success.
Of course, some test takers just don't understand the importance of setting goals. They've never felt the incredible impact that goal-setting has had on their lives, nor have their families encouraged goal-setting behaviors. The best goal-setters I've encountered have been doing so from an early age.
A lack of knowledge about goal-setting can also contribute to avoiding AEPA test preparation. Generally, this is the easiest behavioral problem to solve with a few of my expert techniques and tips.
A fear of rejection can be a very strong reason as to why people avoid setting "AEPA test prep" goals. Many of these people were criticized as children, so they inherently believe that there's no use in setting goals, as they'll always fail.
Along those same lines, a fear of failure is the biggest reason why many of my students avoided AEPA prep goals. The fear of failure is a huge psychological barrier, and has even held back thousands of students from getting their teacher certification. After all, if you inherently believe that you're going to fail, then why bother to try in the first place?
Setting well-defined goals isn't just necessary for superior AEPA test preparation it's vital in overcoming these five huge obstacles. Without a target to aim for, it's easy to listen to those creeping doubts and fears in the back of your mind which are determined to keep you from your teaching dreams.
