Abdominoplasty: Know The Different Forms

Considering a tummy tuck? The surgical term is abdominoplasty

. There are several different techniques available depending on your need and circumstances. Knowing what your options are can lower your chances of being unhappy later.

If you are considering a tummy tuck, which formally goes by the name abdominoplasty, there are a few different ways to have the surgery done. You need to examine your situation and talk with a licensed doctor or surgeon to decide what's best for you. What is the state of your skin? Your muscles? All of these things need to be considered.

A lot of doctors are including liposuction in to the procedure so as to get the best result possible. If you have a little flab and loose muscle but relatively good, taut skin with a good level of elasticity, then an endoscopic procedure is probably going to be best for you. This is one of the least invasive varieties. It involves making small incisions, inserting a camera and removing fat while tightening the muscles.

An endoscopic tummy tuck isn't really a tummy tuck because there is no skin removal. However, the removal of fat and tightening of muscles will make your belly area more sculpted.

If you are a person with extra skin and a little extra fat but have good muscle structure, then a mini-abdominoplasty is something to consider. This procedure has a smaller incision site and removes small amounts of excess fat and then tightens the skin. Getting this done will not include belly button replacement, so it is truly for people with just a small area that needs to be fixed.

The dermolipectomy is a step up from the mini. In this process, your surgeon will make an incision and will, the same as with the mini, remove small amounts of fat. The difference here though is that it is for people with more excessive loose skin. This will involve belly button replacement as the extra skin removal will require it.

The next step up is a full tummy tuck. This surgery is for people with excessive weight loss that have very lax muscles. This is the procedure that is most commonly known about, and is also the most invasive. While getting this, your doctor will make an incision among the bikini line, usually from hip to hip and then will begin separating the skin from the muscles. You will have your belly button removed and placed to the side.

The skin will then be pulled down and restored together, and mostly all of the skin below the belly button will be removed. The doctor will go through and tighten the abdominal muscles. Your belly button will then be reattached at a normal height and your surgery will be complete.

These are a few different techniques used and this is a good starting point in your research. Only you and your doctor will be able to figure out which procedure will be best for you but no matter what, if you research and have a good surgeon, the results will be amazing.
