Abel Prize Is The Academic Award For Mathematicians.

Academic awards are given for the significant scientific achievements and discoveries in different fields of science

. As everybody knows, the most famous scientific award is the Nobel Prize. However, there has never been a Nobel Prize for the scientific achievement in mathematics. It became the reason for establishing an award for mathematicians. This award is called the Abel Prize.

Let us consider some information about this award:

1.First of all, the Abel Prize is an international prize that outstanding mathematicians are presented with.

2.Second, the prize is named after Niels Henrik Abel. This prize is one of the most prestigious prizes in mathematics. It often called mathematician's Nobel.

3.This prize is an attempt to make mathematics more prestigious discipline for young people.

4.It was first introduced by Sophus Lie as an alternative to the Nobel Prize for mathematicians.

5.A new award was sponsored by the King Oscar II. But it was dropped because the union between Norway and Sweden was dissolved.

6.However, in the 2002 the prize was revived.

7.Since then, it has been the major event for the Mathematics Community worldwide. Scientists are awarded annually in Norway. The prize is valued at approximately 6 million NOK.

8.Every year about five mathematicians from all over the world are awarded with Abel Prize for significant contributions in mathematics. Thus, every year the committee of international mathematicians appoints the candidates for a Prize.

9.Today, the main purpose of the Abel funds is to provide the financial basis for an international prize in mathematics in order to elevate the status of this science.

10.However, the urgent question today is, if the Abel Prize is going to reach the same international approval as the Nobel Prize.
