You might refer to Cellular Technology as mobile technology well these two terms are not of the same meaning. Mobile technology is commonly associated with mobile phones or simply mobile which may be just a term in the past. Today, the technology that we already have is cellular technology since we already use cellular phones on cellular networks.
The reason on why cellular technology is called such is because on the way it works. Cellular technology uses different cellular bases which forms cells. A certain cell covers a certain area that is why even if we move from one place to another; we can still get cellular service.
There are actually two main systems involved in cellular technology and they are analog and digital. Just like in television systems wherein we get analog signals when we just use regular antennas and receive digital signal when subscribed to cable TV services.
The history of cellular technology can easily be identified using the major generations. Older phones are the first generation. These phones are commonly bulky and can only make and receive calls and sending text messages was not the trend then. The second generation phones began to use GPRS signal which enabled the users to send and receive multimedia messages. Now, the most common types of cellular phones are 3G or third generation wherein we can already surf the internet using 3G networks. Fourth generation of cellular technology is now starting which will enable us to stream videos smoothly.
