Guar gum is a galactomannan obtained from the endosperm of Cyamoposis tetragonolobus, leguminous plant called guar. Guar plant, also known as cluster bean plant is a leguminous crop grown mainly in India and Pakistan. Guar gum is referred by several names like Gomme de guar, Goma Guar, Guarkernmehl in various other countries. There are several guar gum manufacturers in India who depending upon the requirement of the end product, process guar gum and export it to other countries. Guar Gum Manufacturing

In a guar gum manufacturing process, the seeds of guar are subjected to processes like roasting, grinding and polishing. The husk from the seeds is separated and the refined guar slits are further processed. Guar splits are selected for processing and are screened to remove dust and other unwanted particles. They are then prehydrated by mixing them with appropriate amounts of water in a double cone mixer. These hydrated splits are then passed through flaker. The flaked splits are then grounded, dried and powdered. To obtain fine guar gum powder, the obtained powdered guar is sieved. During the process of guar gum manufacturing the husk and germ are obtained which are high in protein and therefore ideal substances to be used as cattle feed.

The so called goma guar has several invaluable properties and therefore is used in various sectors especially the food industry. Guar gum works as thickener, emulsifier, stabilizer and binding agent and therefore are used in several food applications mainly those which require addition of starch or thickening agents. It is used in baked items like cakes, mixes in order to increase their softness and shelf life. It is used in processing and canning of pet foods and meat as it has the capability to increase the viscosity which reduces the splashing during the process and therefore speeds it up. Guar gum is used in sugarless dietary beverages to improve the texture and mouth feel of the products. The hydration and water binding properties of guar make it an important product for use in ice cream stabilizers, particularly for use in high temperature and short time processes. The derivatives of guar like hydroxypropyl and carboxymethyl gum are used as water loss control, viscosity control, suspension, friction reducing, hydraulic fracturing and mobility control agents in oil, gas and petroleum industries. Similarly guar gum serves applications in paper, textile, mining, explosives and cosmetic industries.
