Abu Dhabi Hotels Record Highest Ever Number Of Visitors

Abu Dhabi is becoming an increasingly popular tourist and business destination and

newly-released figures have revealed that last year, the United Arab Emirate received its highest ever number of visitors to its hotels and hotel apartments.

The number of travellers who stayed at hotel properties during Abu Dhabi holidays reached 2,111,611 in 2011; a six per cent increase on its target of two million.

Several new Abu Dhabi hotels have opened up recently and the future looks bright for new properties that are due to open across the city and on Saadiyat Island this year.

The number of guest nights increased by 22 per cent to 6.3 million in 2011, while occupancy levels of hotels in Abu Dhabi were up 7 percent to 69 percent.

Tourists will have plenty of reasons to go on Abu Dhabi holidays this year with the Formula One Grand Prix and concerts by Madonna and Elton John.

Abu Dhabi is the capital of the United Arab Emirates and a popular destination for festivals, sporting events and shopping. Visitors can visit a number of attractions during business trips or holidays in Abu Dhabi, including Khalifa Park, the waterfront, Sheikh Zayed Mosque, the Marina Mall and the Abu Dhabi Mall. The bustling city is home to luxury hotel chains, championship golf courses, lavish shopping malls and boutiques, lush green parks and golden sandy beaches.

Saadiyat Island is an up and coming world class leisure, residential, business and tourism hub that is located 500m of the coast of Abu Dhabi. The natural island spans 27-square-kilometres of land and development is being carried out in different stages until 2020.

Once completed the island will boast luxury hotels; iconic landmarks; marinas with berths for up to 1,000 boats; two championship golf courses; civic and leisure facilities; over three million square-metres of office space; sea-view residential apartments and villas; and tourist attractions such as the Guggenheim and the Louvre museums and the Zayed National Museum.

Every day, hundreds of international travellers pass through Abu Dhabi International Airport from on their way to enjoy Abu Dhabi holidays. The airport has received several awards over the last 12 months including the Airport Carbon Accredited status at the Mapping Level enabling it to be the first carbon accredited airport in the Middle East and North Africa region. The airport was honoured with a golden award for Fast Travel recently after the Fast Travel programme was introduced to speed up services for passengers and reduce airline costs.
