Access Control Systems - Protecting Your Office Against Security Breach
When it comes to keeping your commercial facility secure
, the new age access control system is the common sense choice. Using a technically integrated system including card reader, database and control panel, the access control system grants access to only authorized users.
From small offices to large enterprises, security is a major issue for any entity. While most business owners in Cleveland, Ohio rely on the traditional locks for safeguarding their workspace, others are rapidly turning to the single best solution access control systems. When it comes to the security of your workspace, it's up to you whether you want to depend on the age-old security solutions or act wise enough to have it secured with an access control system.
Determining the entry and exit of a person inside a building, access control systems offer a better security of the workspace. As compared to mechanical locks which allow entry to the key holder, access controls not only allow entry but also keep track of the specific time and date when the door was accessed along with the user details.
Most conveniently understood as card reader solutions, the access control systems make sure no unauthorized person gets inside. A magnetic door switch is placed for monitoring the position of the door. Comparing the credential with an access control list, the system makes decisions regarding granting or denying access to a user. This bit of the work is done by the IP enabled controllers which establish a connection with a host and database via standard networks.
Depending on their functioning capabilities, readers are classified as:
* Basic Readers, also known as non-intelligent readers, read the card number or PIN and transmit it to the control panel using the Wiegand protocol. These are the the most popular access control readers.
* Semi-intelligent Readers don't make any access decisions despite having all the essential inputs and outputs for controlling door hardware. Reading the card number or PIN, this reader transmits info to the main controller and waits for the response and if the connection is interrupted during the process, the reader stops functioning.
* Intelligent Readers are the advanced form of semi-intelligent ones. In addition to the inputs and outputs, these readers come with memory and processing power which enables them to make independent decisions regarding access.
* IP Readers are the new generation intelligent readers. Unlike other readers, IP reader enabled access control systems don't have control panels and the readers interact directly with the PC acting a host.
In most access control systems, only entry is controlled and exit is free. Some businesses, however, see the need to control the exit as well and have a second reader installed on the opposite side of the door. On the other hand, an uncontrolled exit is granted by a device called Request To Exit (RTE) which is either a push-button or a motion detector. Whenever a user pushes a button or any motion is detected at the door, the alarm is turned off temporarily, only until the door is opened.
