Accessing Internet Faster With The Use Of Ethernet Modems

Dial up methods to connect internet was brought up in the world of technology by

Robert Metcalfe in 1970s which can give maximum speed up to 56 kilobits per second(theoretically), then a new generation of modems called the Ethernet modems were introduced that can transfer data at a speed of ten megabits per second to 1000 megabits per second. There was no need of phone connection or any modem as it allows to automatically dial remote IP address. It free the users from the trouble of busy phone lines. It is available all over the globe where internet connection is available. The network can be secured by using of firewalls in the computer from public access.

Two common types of Ethernet modems i.e. digital subscriber line (DSL) and the digital cable are the most commonly used. The DSL type modem uses a phone line to connect to the internet whereas the digital cable uses normal cables to connect to the internet, cables mostly used in television sets to receive programming signals. The Ethernet modem is connected to the computer with a cable which is connected to the computers network interface card (NIC).The Ethernet modems get power from a plug which is connected to a socket running alternate current. Lastly a phone or a digital cable wire is connected to the Ethernet modem. There are wireless Ethernet modems also available for connection these days.

The two types of broadband connection is the Ethernet and the USB modems.USB modems are famous for their portability because of their plug-in and use feature. The Ethernet modems can be used if one needs a reliable connection. The cables of the Ethernet connection can run all across the house, building or office whereas the connection through the USB is limited to approximately 5 meters. The initial cost of connection of the Ethernet modem is high as one need to purchase the Ethernet adapter for the connection. The use of USB modems is easy and does not require any special kind of hardware as it is plugged in the USB port of the computer.

The Ethernet modem is used for communication between different networks and it allows different modem communication applications to carry out their communication via LAN or internet.

Thus Ethernet connection can be used for the following features:

1.It allows Modem Communication application to carry out their communication.

2.It is faster than other modems.

3.It is reliable.

4.One can be free from the trouble of busy phone line during connection.

5.No modem is required.
