Add A Fresh Look To The Kitchen Using Wooden Cabinets

When it is time to redecorate the kitchen, moving things around and adding in new pieces can help change the look of the room

. One popular method of finding extra storage space is to use wooden cabinets for utility and enhanced decoration. Redecorating will give the kitchen a fresh look without the intense expenditures of a kitchen remodel. Existing cabinets can be painted and extra shelves added if needed. Countertops can be replaced as well. Move appliances when possible for a fresh look and replace the oldest ones if possible.

Organization

For those with a lot of possessions in the kitchen, such as cooking utensils, it is probably a good idea to go through all cabinets and storage areas related to the kitchen. Make a pile of things to keep, things to discard and things to store elsewhere. Sometimes it is difficult to separate the items that are nice to have from the ones that are necessary and are actually used with any type of regularity. A good rule of thumb to abide by is if it has not been used in more than a year, it is probably not needed. After sorting utensils, next should be plates and dishes, pots and pans, then food. When discarding things, keep in mind the compost pile, recycling center and nearby thrift shop.

Spices

Going through a spice collection is a good starting point for consolidating. Anything with an expired date or those that the cook cannot remember when was the last time they used it should be discarded. The remaining spices should be put into a new spice rack. This will likely inspire the family chef to cook with spices more often or use some that have been neglected. Spices in equal height containers are difficult to find when they are stored one behind the next on a cabinet shelf, especially one above eye level. Paring down the collection will help it fit into a spice cabinet. These can be installed against the wall, recessed into the wall or put in a special spice rack.

Pantry

Adding pantry racks will help to make more room for food and small appliances elsewhere. Wooden pantry cabinets can be recessed into the wall to create more space and a stylish look. These are used to store food, knickknacks, dishes and other items. When preparing for the installation of a pantry cabinet, the area should be tall enough to fit the cabinetry into the wall without disturbing any electrical, plumbing or other interiors hidden behind the wall's surface.
