I believe addiction affects juveniles differently than it does adults

. So many of our societies future are being buried into the world of addiction with no future insight.

Many adults who are addicted to some substance have explored relationships leading them toward longer term commitments with someone other than a family member. It is my belief that after this phase of development, many adults decide they want to take the chance into the dark side of addiction.

Erickson states that successful completion of development can lead to comfortable relationships and a sense of commitment, safety, and care within a relationship. As I research the stages of Erickson and Piaget, I believe a huge percentage of at-risk youth have yet to develop into adults before becoming afflicted to the tribulations of addiction. At-risk youth however, have yet to develop a sense of who they are and that sense is hindered through addiction, which results in a sense of confusion about themselves and their role in the world.

Addiction is hideous, assiduous and destructive. Yes, initially many are swayed by their peers to experiment, but other factors are included for many. Biology may be a factor according to science. The odds are high if a parent is addicted to a substance. Environment plays a role also if the youth resides in a poor or criminally high area. Psychology is another factor if the youth is abused physically or mentally. I cannot forget the youth with neurological disorders who are at risk. These are all facts of research that many people are aware of.


How nice it would be if our country put our children first.

What about a 12 step type program other than tailor made specifically for youth which also entails cognitive methods of treatment? The VIEW theory would be applied. VIEW is an instrument aimed at providing a video image of success for the student or patient with issues of social content, however has not been studied. It is believed this instrument using computer simulation to be an excellent medium to facilitate communication and other skills to students with disabilities that are intrusive upon learning. This program would serve as a training program also to assist with communication/social skills and lastly a strong educational component that focuses on connecting our youth back into society as productive, prideful citizens. The overall program itself would consist of several programs. The program would follow-up on these youth to assure success for at least 18 months to two years.
