Adele Song Lyrics | Adele Bio
After the release of her first album, 19, named after the age in which she recorded it
, Adele was already being compared to jazzy powerhouse Amy Winehouse.
Adele began her singing career in England and in 2007 was already receiving great acclaim for her singles before putting out her first studio album in 2008.
The album 19 contained the hit song Chasing Pavements, which won her two Grammys in 2009, including Best New Artist.
On May 8, 1988, Adele Laurie Blue Adkins was born to an 18-year-old single mother in the North London neighborhood of Tottenham.
She fostered a very close relationship with her mother, but never knew the father who left her when she was three years old.
Adele discovered her musical talent at an early age and was inspired by artists such as Etta James and Lauren Hill. In her later teens, she recorded her own songs and posted them on her Myspace page, which got the attention of XL records. XL Records signed her in 2006.
Through her label, she churned out singles Hometown Glory and Daydreamer, which got both radio play and positive attention from critics, who accurately predicted that she would become the latest breakthrough star in coming years.
Adeles first album enjoyed solid sales numbers in the UK and a moderate success in the U.S. It was only after her performance on Saturday Night Live that records sales in the U.S. skyrocketed.
The album was nominated for four Grammies and won two.
The Adele song lyrics demonstrate her unabashed attitude and blunt honesty towards herself and her personal life. Both 19 and 21 share the theme of heartbreak and failed relationships.
19, and in particular the song Chasing Pavements, came to be after discovering her then-boyfriend cheated on her, then punching him in the face in a pub. After getting kicked out and running home, the phrase chasing pavements came to her.
Her sophomore album 21 is similarly about another failed relationship, except this time the love simply faded away, as opposed to ending in a bit of passion and betrayal. Adele claims that this second breakup was even more difficult to deal with than the first, since the relationships end didnt have such a direct cause.
Her next album, 21, would become an even greater success than her first. Released in 2011, 21 contains several big hits, including the fiery Rolling in the Deep and the deeply sensual, emotional melody of Someone Like You.
The span of 21 covers her complex emotions towards the heartache of a passing relationship she had. The relationship began in earnest after the release of 19, lasted for a year and died down a year later.
The Adele song lyrics were also inspired by American country music, which Adele was exposed to during her previous North American tour. In hits such as Rolling in the Deep and Set Fire to the Rain, a deep gospel soul blends with a disco beat thats difficult not to get caught up in.
Someone Like You was even featured and celebrated in a Saturday Night Live sketch. 21 was the first album of 2011 to attain gold status and sat on the charts for the longest time since Santanas Supernatural in 1999. Her second album garnered six Grammy awards.
