He or she will then remove extra cartilage or reshape as needed and will then re-suture the skin back together. After surgery is done, there is a pressure bandage placed over the area. This has to be kept clean and dry and you have to make sure to follow all post operation instructions.

Adults have an added challenge when going in for this procedure. Adult cartilage is not as pliable or easy to work with as children's so it is very important that you trust your surgeon. Before getting anything worked on, you will have a consultation. As an adult, you need to be sure that your doctor has experience with adult ears so that you can be as confident as possible about your results.

Make sure that he or she is licensed and can provide you with references so that you can verify his or her experience and prestige. Doing research online will help you to make a list of questions to ask in your initial consultation. Do not be afraid or embarrassed to ask anything, as it is your doctor's job to make you as comfortable as possible.

When you are done, you will have to make sure to properly care for your new ear so that it can heal properly. Improper care can lead to infection, scarring and different positioning than was intended.

Keeping the bandages on as long as you are told to be important as well, as the bandages will both keep your ear in place and will provide protection from infection. Once you are healed up, you will be amazed at the results and will gain an immeasurable amount of confidence in your appearance.
