Advantages Of Working In China

You have probably read a slew of articles on how young executives are rushing to look for work in China

. This is true to a great extent, and is mainly fuelled by a growing Chinese economy and a sluggish western economy. But before you join the band wagon, shouldnt you know the advantages and disadvantages, of working in China?

Here are some advantages: -

1.China is one of the largest economies in the world.

2.It is a hub for western companies, with many of them setting up their corporate offices and factors there.

3.Globalisation has caught up in China as well. Today, Chinese cities are some of the most cosmopolitan in the world.

4.If you are in the banking industry or looking for English teaching jobs in China, then you will have a great advantage.

5.If you are lucky enough to land a local package, then housing and tax incentives are also part of your salary.

6.If you are a certified English teacher, you can be picky about teaching English in China, a plethora of jobs are available.

7.International companies based in China employ about 85% expatriates in their workforce.

8.You are not alone. Every year the number of westerners working in China increases.

9.You will be working in a cross cultural economy and learn a new language.

What can be some of the disadvantages: -

1.It is a totally new culture and the chances of a cultural faux pas are high.

2.The emerging Chinese population are well educated and are comfortable to converse in English.

3.The pay package for entry level is not as high as it used to be. There is plenty of local competition for the jobs.

4.If you do not understand at least basic Mandarin, then you will be at a disadvantage.

5.You will be working very far away from home.

These are some of the factors you need to think about. However, despite all these factors, you would still hold a competitive advantage if you consider English teaching in China.
