Sapporo ("important river flowing through the plain" in Ainu language) is the capital of Hokkaidoand Japan's fifth largest. Sapporo is also one of the nation's youngest big city. In 1857, the urban population stood at just seven people. In the early Meiji Period, when the development began on a large scale Hokkaido, Sapporo was chosen as the administrative center of the island and enlarged in accordance with the advice offoreign specialists. As a result, Sapporo was built based on the North American system of streetstyle rectangle. Sapporo became world famous in 1972 when the Winter Olympics were held there. Currently, the city is famous for its ramen, beer, and the annual snow festival held in February

Villages in Hokkaido (Kaitaku no Mura)

Historical Village of Hokkaido (kaitaku no mura) is an open-air museum on the outskirts of Sapporo. It shows about 60 typical buildings from all over Hokkaido, is derived from the Meiji and Taisho Period (1868-1926), an era when the development of Hokkaido done on a large scale.

Open air museum is divided into town, fishing village, farming village and the mountain village. Hokkaido Museum of History (kinenkan kaitaku), which contains documents the historical development of Hokkaido, can be found on the inside.

Mount Moiwa

Mount Moiwa is composed of several forests, small mountains surrounding the city of Sapporo. There is an observation platform and restaurant at the top with spectacular cuisine and beautiful scenery at night.

Note that the restaurant at thethe peak Mount Moiwa not the place for fine dining as suggested by the pamphlet restaurant . Rather, it is a kind of tourist cafeteria, where food must be ordered in a vending machine.

Sapporo Beer Museum

The Sapporo Breweries, is the oldest museum of beer from four factories in Japan, Opening of Sapporo beer museum held in 1987 in the Meiji Period building a brick factory. This museum introduces the history of beer in Japan and the brewing process. Tasting different kinds of beer is expensive with the cost of beer to feel small.

Next to the museum stands Genghis Khan Hall, a beer hall that offers everything. You can drink beer and can also eat free food. For guests with a taste of food desired, can be ordered from the menu individually.
