, it might be interesting to know how they are measured for and installed. Some of you might find this task or think that this task is easy to accomplish alone - some of you may even be right.

Measuring for them might be the most straightforward part and most of you can have confidence in doing so. Before you go ahead with it though, despite the fact that most sets of windows look the same size - it isn't always the case. It could be just a fraction, but you must measure each individual pane to make sure you get the correct measurement on each.

If you had inside installation in mind (recessed), you have to make sure that the opposing corners are equal both at the upper corners and the bottom corners of your window pane - do a measuring check horizontally between each set of corners and vertically to make sure they match. Don't be confused by this, it doesn't mean that the width and height have to be of equal lengths just the opposing corners. If you discover a difference in measurements any more than half an inch they you will have to have non-recessed plantation shutters installed.

There are more technicalities with measuring for recessed Plantation shutters. In terms of depth between the back of the shutters and the window hardware such as handles and so forth - there has to be at a minimum, a gap of one and a half inches in order for you to operate them successfully.

When you go with an outside mount, one which is non-recessed, the shutters are mounted directly to the wall surrounding your windows. This is often thought easier as no trim is needed and there are no concerns with window hardware becoming an obstacle.

Installation can be a chore for some but for others experienced in DIY, the possibilities of making a good job out of it are high - if in doubt, call upon a company who gets it right every time! After measuring the top, middle and bottom section of your window - take the largest length and make a note. Measure then the distance between the top moulding of the window and the window sill.

On holding the shutters in position, you should take a screw to make little hole marks where later they can be fitted. Arm yourself with an electric drill and make pilot holes one size smaller than the screws you intend to use - now take your window treatments, position them and screw into position.

Take a look at the work you have just done and observe to see if the fit is perfect or not, when you are satisfied you can proceed with applying screw covers and any decorative hardware that may have come with your shutters.
