An AED as it is known as, is a portable, electric device that can diagnose if the heart has stopped beating and deliver a shock if required.

Even though your first step was to call for help, it may take several minutes for first responders to arrive on scene. That said, its highly recommended that companies keep an automated external defibrillator onsite. Companies can integrate the proper usage on an AED into their yearly emergency training protocols.

Some organizations are already providing a free medical checkup to their employees to check for any symptoms of sudden cardiac arrest. Many organizations like American Heart Association are making sure that AEDs are easily accessible to all employees and are providing professional training as well.
