Aesthetic Aspects of Used Cars

Finding a used car that runs well may be pretty easy, but finding one that looks great, too, is often a more complicated task. In the sea of used cars that sits outside almost every dealership in the country there is an array of colors and styles that may prove difficult to navigate. Everyone knows that used vehicles can save them thousands of dollars, but finding a used automobile that falls within a budget, runs reliably, and looks great may be a heavy undertaking. If you have decided to purchase a used car, keep these aesthetic aspects in mind while sorting through the sea of vehicles at your local dealership: Paint. Used cars are of course going to have faded paint, even if it is slight, unless the car has been repainted fairly recently. A great wax job and detail can bring the shine back to life, but you should look carefully for marks that are beyond repair, including deep gouges, long scratches, places where the paint has chipped or cracked, and even places where the paint varies in color. All of these seemingly minor (or major, depending on the damage) paint defects can lower the value of the car. Seals. Every window, door, and sunroof on a car has a seal, which keeps rain, snow, and wind from making its way into the vehicle. A broken or weak seal can cause a leak, which can over time lead to mildew in the interior. Additionally, damaged seals can cause doors and windows to function improperly. Before purchasing a used car check all seals to ensure that they are tight. Damaged seals may have color variations or look rotten and will significantly increase the chances of you having to get some work done on the vehicle in the future. Upholstery. You may not smoke or eat in your car, but the previous owner of a used car may have. Check the upholstery, including seats, carpets, flooring, and dashboard, for cigarette burns, stains, and other issues. While these may not be deal breakers in your eyes they certainly will diminish the amount of money that the car is worth. Dashboard. Cars that are properly taken care of should have a clean, evenly colored dashboard. Dust buildup, discoloration, and sun damage can reduce a car's aesthetic value. Additionally, make sure that all of the buttons light up properly and all of the gauges and features of the dashboard work, including the speedometer, temperature gauge, gas gauge, CD player, air conditioning, etc. Tires. Tires that look worn probably are, and the last thing you want to do is pay for a set of tires for a car you have just purchased. Inspect the tires to ensure that they have a good amount of tread and that the rubber looks sturdy, not old. When purchasing a used car it is a given that you will have to sacrifice some of the aesthetic qualities of the vehicle. This does not mean that you should pay anything beyond the worth of the car, though, and these characteristics contribute significantly to the vehicle's value.
