Pregnancy is a crucial stage in a womans life. The fact that she is carrying another human being in her womb is something that everyone must be concerned about. There are cases when a pregnant woman or a nursing woman suffers from severe dental pains or even needs dental surgery. However, not all dental treatments are advisable for pregnant women and nursing mothers. In most cases, the dentists are the ones responsible for this.

Teeth whitening for pregnant women have not yet proven to have direct severe effect on the baby. The chemical used by aesthetic dentists in Los Angeles for bleaching teeth is called tooth whitening gel. This gel has a component of peroxide. Peroxide is just water and oxygen atom, and it is the oxygen in the bleach that gets the teeth to whiten.

When doing teeth whitening, it is normal to swallow some of the gel. And since oxygen is not really a harmful substance, cosmetic dentists in LA assume that tooth bleaching is not harmful to pregnant women. However, pregnancy is a very delicate situation. It is still advised by dental cosmetics practitioners to wait until the baby is born for any dental procedures to be done.

Pregnancy is highly at risk especially during the first trimester. So if there are pregnant women who really would take the risk of going for a tooth whitening procedure, LA dentists recommend to wait until the mid or third trimester of the pregnancy period. Local anesthetics is not advisable during pregnancy, as painful dental treatments may add to the stress factors of pregnancy, thus affecting the babys healthy development.

On the other hand, nursing or lactating mothers can perform teeth whitening without harm. LA dentists would normally suggest all dental treatments to be done after pregnancy rather than during the cycle. Treatments like tooth whitening and bonding, no matter how safe they are, are still discouraged to be done during pregnancy.

But in cases where dental procedures which require injection of local anesthetics are badly needed, dental surgeries are performed. Emergency dental work, root canal treatment, and wisdom tooth extraction are only some of the procedures that are performed by LA dentists to nursing women in a case to case basis. Besides, it is better to have a dental work than prolong the infection of bacteria in the mouth.
