After Airport Arrival, When Whould I Call To Get Picked Up?

When you're traveling into a new city, one of the things that you've always got to worry about is your transportation when you get there

. A few people are brave enough to try and untangle local public transit routes, but this can be complicated, and awkward if you're carrying a lot of luggage with you as well. Instead, most people opt to use the local taxi services that are available to them, but there are some things that are worth thinking about if you're planning to use Taxis for local transportation.

When you fly into a new city, it pays to spend some time ahead of schedule learning about the local taxi system. You're going to need a ride after you land, and it helps to time it up right. If you call to soon, you'll undoubtedly have the cab waiting too long for you, and they may just leave if another fair comes along. If you call to late, you're going to be standing around waiting for the care with your bags in hand which is no fun either.

Deciding when to call the cab should be based mostly on the kind of flight that you've just taken. This is because this is the primary determining factor in how much time you're going to have to spend in the airport before you actually are ready to leave. If you're on a short trip and your baggage was all in carry on, for example, then you can probably call the cab as soon as you're allowed to turn your cell phone back on.

If you have to wait for luggage you should wait until your plane's luggage starts showing up on the luggage carousel. Sometimes there is a backlog of planes that are waiting to have their bags unloaded, and if you call before your plane is up, you might be jumping the gun in how soon you're calling for a car.

The reason that it is good to learn about the local cab companies beforehand is that this might not even be necessary at all. There are certain major airports which essentially always have empty cabs waiting outside to pick up anyone that is looking for a ride. They do this because they know that this is one of the surest ways of getting a fair quickly, especially at a busy airport. If you're flying to that kind of airport, just walk out the front doors and you'll have a ride.
