Aftercare For Your New Cloakroom Bathroom Furniture

Your new cloakroom bathroom furniture needs to be looked after as well as the furniture

in your main bathroom, if it is to last for years to come and keep its looks all the while. There are a few steps you can take to keep your purchases looking as good as new for longer.

In a cloakroom bathroom, the main defining feature is space or lack of it. And in such confined quarters, it becomes more important than ever to ensure that theres adequate provision of ventilation. Build up of moisture wont be such a problem as in your main bathroom unless youve managed to squeeze in a small corner shower which is used regularly. If you have, a ventilation system will be worth its weight in gold, ensuring that steam dissipates as fast as it builds up, and preventing moisture attacking your bathroom furniture.

You should always wipe up spills and splashes promptly, especially from wooden or veneered surfaces. This ensures that: (a) water in the cloakroom is reduced, which will reduce the humidity in the air; (b) water is less able to work through the surface coating on your furniture and get to the inside; and (c) spills of coloured liquid (red wine, perhaps, if your cloakroom is in use during a house party) have less opportunity to leave a permanent stain on the surfaces of your bathroom furniture.

Always clean your bathroom furniture regularly. In doing so, you will keep the surfaces looking sparkly clean and youll also prevent dirt getting built up on the surfaces of furniture and grinding into the finish, causing scratches. If items are made from solid wood, or covered with a wooden veneer, you should also polish the surfaces every so often. Dont do this too frequently no more than, say, three or four times each year as an excess of polish can cause a filmy residue to build up over the surface, actually detracting from the lustrous finish youre aiming to promote. Remember to clean inside your cabinets too, to stop them getting musty!

Always keep the hinges and drawer runners of your storage cabinets clean and well-lubricated to ensure they open and close easily. A sticking drawer or squeaky cabinet is generally a sign of either a build up of detritus or a lack of oil either way, this is something that is relatively simple to keep on top of as a part of a regular bathroom furniture aftercare and maintenance routine.
