Aggregate Crushing Process

Natural gravel or sand are usually dredged or dug from a pit

, river, lake, seabed or mountain. Crushed aggregate is produced by crushing quarry rocks, boulders, cobbles, or large-size gravels. Recycled concrete is a viable source of aggregate and has been satisfactorily used in soil-cement, granular subbases, and in new concrete. Aggregate processing consists of crushing, screening, and washing the aggregate to obtain proper cleanliness and size. If necessary, a benefaction process such as jigging or heavy media separation can be used to upgrade the quality.

Fine aggregate refers to the gravel or crushed stone material whose stone size is less than 5MM used for preparing the concrete. Fine aggregate is also divided into coarse sand, medium sand, fine sand and finer sand, whose fineness modulus is of 3.7 ~ 3.1, 3.0 ~ 2.3, 2.2 ~ 1. 6 and 1.5 ~ 0.7. According to production sources and materials, fine aggregate can be divided into ordinary river sand, mountain sand, sea sand, artificial crushed sand (stone chips), and waste sand.

Concrete fine aggregates generally uses clean river sand, suitable for the medium and coarse sand. Coarse aggregate should appropriately use gravel, crushed stone or crushed gravel based on local resources and material supplying conditions, combined with engineering and technical requirements. The maximum size of coarse aggregate should be decided according to the structure, steel spacing and construction methods, equipment and other selected conditions.
