Aggressive Drivers

However, usually, you can see that their track record speaks for itself as aggressive

drivers are usually the ones with the most speeding tickets, traffic accidents and sometimes lawsuits. But what causes us to drive aggressively?

For most aggressive drivers, the root of the problem is emotional (obviously). Perhaps you've had a bad day at work, or someone you care about has said something hurtful to you. In other scenarios, maybe you are in a rush to get home because something bad has just happened or you just found out something that requires a sense of urgency on your part. But is aggressive driving really the solution? The answer to this is no. I used to be an aggressive driver after I first received my driver's license. The reason? I simply felt as if everyone around me was driving too slow. As a result, I would zip in and out of traffic and speed in between every traffic light. I wound up wasting a lot of gasoline that way but didn't really care.

Today, I own my own car and have been focused on ways to conserve money so as to improve my financial standings, and one of the first places that I targeted was my vehicle. When looking at your financial situation and trying to figure out where you can cut costs, it helps to know where you are spending the most money. For me, this centered around my car. I found that I was spending a considerable amount of money to fill up my car sometimes several times a week. I was driving home or to my grandmother's house, and the combination of these road trips with the fact that I was driving aggressively was costing me big time. As a result, I learned how to control the way that I drove. Instead of becoming impatient with other drivers, I simply slowed down my driving and limited myself to only doing five miles per hour over the speed limit versus twenty- and believe me, this was extremely hard to do!

I also reduced the number of trips that I made per month to visit my grandmother. Somewhat begrudgingly, I also

opted to spend one of the holidays in North Carolina versus in New York (where my family lives) so that I could try to save a little more money. Instead of making several errand trips all over town, I limited myself to making a few small errands to places that were within close proximity to each other so that I wouldn't have to drive home several times. Besides this, planning out my errands this way cut down on the amount of time that I was driving on the road with other drivers who would make me frustrated. Perhaps the biggest change to help my aggressive driving, however, was figuring out when the best times to be on the road were. I surveyed the area that I lived in for the fist few months and have since learned to avoid being on certain roads during certain hours when the traffic is exceedingly heavy.
