Air Zimbabwe is the national airline of Zimbabwe, headquartered at Harare International Airport in Harare. It operates services in southern Africa, Asia and to London Gatwick Airport. Its main base is Harare International Airport.

The airline was established on 1 September 1967 as Air Rhodesia after Central African Airways Corporation was dissolved. It became the short-lived Air Zimbabwe Rhodesia in June 1979 and then Air Zimbabwe in April 1980 when the Republic of Zimbabwe was formed. It began services on 2 April 1980 to London Gatwick. Air Zimbabwe took over the freight airline Affretair in 1983. It is a government owned corporation. The initial fleet of five Boeing 707 sourced from Lufthansa replaced the Boeing 720 aircraft used by Air Rhodesia. These 707s joined the Vickers Viscount fleet, which was added to with the purchase of two Viscounts from the UK operator Dan Air. Three Boeing 737 aircraft were ordered from Boeing in the mid 1980s to enhance regional routes. Long haul operations which were the 707s' domain were gradually phased out from 1990 with the two newly acquired Boeing 767 aircraft. A British Aerospace BAe 146 was added to the fleet from the air force in the 1980s. Leased Fokker 50s were used from 1995 but proved unsuitable to the hot and high conditions and were returned to the lessor. The BAe 146 has been subsequently grounded.

In past Air Zimbabwe often had to cancel their flights due to lack of spare parts and fuel. This has impacted their International star ranking & their credibility as well. In September Air Zimbabwe has beard millions of loss due to its pilots strike. Now Air Zimbabwe is striving best to serve local & International passengers. They have ordered new Air bus planes to improve their service. They have improved their onboard flight services including entertainment & kitchen facilities. Air Zimbabwe has only two booking classes to offer i.e. Economy & Business class. One of the most high traffic routes is their Harare-London-Harare route. Air Zimbabwe operates twice a week from Harare International to London Gatwick.

In High season i.e. July-August & December season they increase from two flights a week to three flights by adding an additional flight on Saturdays from Harare International. Rest of the year their schedule is from Harare International they depart on Wednesdays at Night & on Sundays in the Morning. Similarly from London Gatwick South Terminal they depart on Thursdays & Mondays at evening time.

However, an increasing number of foreign airlines are also flying to Harare Airport. these days. They include South African Airways, Comair and low-fare Kulula.com, both owned by British Airways and flying from South Africa's Johannesburg International Airport. Other airlines include Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways, TAAG from Angola and Air Botswana.
