Airport Car Hire France
There are two international airports in Paris: Roissy Charles de Gaulle to the north
, and Orly to the south. These airports provide service for more than 75 million passengers every year with flights to roughly 500 cities in 132 countries. The vast majority of international flights are served by Roissy Charles de Gaulle. Orly typically serves domestic French flights. You will find duty free shops, restaurants, hotels, car rental, car hire, and transportation by bus or train to the inner city from both airports.
About 84 kilometers from Paris, you will find a third international airport, Beauvais Tille (BVA). It has become popular with European travelers with more than 2 million passengers in 2007. Beauvais is in the province of Picardy and primarily serves budget airlines from Ireland, the U.K., and several other western European countries.
The smallest airport near Paris is Le Bourget (LBG). It is only used for general aviation (business jets, air shows, etc.). Le Bourget was the landing site for Charles Lindbergh's historic solo transatlantic crossing in 1927, and it was the only airport in Paris prior to the opening of Orly in 1932.
Charles de Gaulle Airport
Roissy Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) is located near Roissy en France. The airport has three main terminals.
Terminal one (the oldest) opened in 1974 and was built with an avant garde design. It's comprised of a single main building for check in and baggage claim, and 7 satellites for arrivals and departures. Underground walkways with moving sidewalks connect the satellites to the main building.
Terminal two was built exclusively for Air France originally, but has been expanded and serves several other airlines. It also has several terminals, which are joined together by ground level or below ground passageways. The seven terminals consist of 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D, 2E, 2F and the separate 2G.
Terminal three consists of charter and low cost airlines. With only one hall, it is located 1 kilometer from terminal 1, but walking to terminal one will amount to roughly 3 kilometers.
Arriving passengers at different terminals who wish to meet each other, and those who will be taking an RER B commuter express to Paris or a TGV train to other destinations in France can use the free 24 hour VAL (Vehicule Automatique Leger) shuttle train. The VAL makes frequent runs between terminals 1, 2, 3 and the rail stations in addition to two remote car parks within eight minutes.
