Albama Plaintiff Sues Pfizer Over Chantix Side Effects

In the latest medication lawsuit a plaintiff from Alabama has sued the pharmaceutical giant Pfizer Inc

. for the side effects that he suffered due to use of Chantix a drug that is used for helping people quit smoking. The lawsuit was filed by an Alabama resident John May on the 14th of September, 2012 with the United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama. However, viewing the severity of the case and complexity that it possesses the case was transferred to the Multi District Litigation Court of Alabama to streamline the judicial process and consolidate the Chantix lawsuits.

The plaintiff John May reported in his lawsuit that he began taking the drug on 31st of July 2008, however he claims that after few months he began experiencing mood swings and behaviors problems like aggression, suicide and depression. The plaintiff had revealed in his lawsuit that had he knew the drug had such side effects he wouldve never taken this medication. The plaintiff had sought for punitive and compensatory damages for all the physical side effects and psychological harassment that he had suffered all the way through.

This is not the only case that the pharmaceutical giant Pfizer is battling with rather there are many lawsuits that are filed against the drug maker for not informing patients with adequate information about the drug side effects and for being negligent. Some of the psychological side effects that the drug is associated with are:

Mood swings

Suicidal tendency

Aggressive behavior

Negative thoughts

Viewing the growing number of Chantix lawsuits and Chantix side effects the federal agency of United States Food and Drug Administration had asked the drug manufacturer Pfizer to place a black box informing users about the mental, psychological and emotional side effects of chantix. The federal agency of Australia Therapeutic Good Administration too had received a wide number of complaints reporting the side effects associated with the drug. According to reports the number of such cases could exceed 1,000 and that there is an urgent need to put an end to this incidence.

Chantix also known as Verenicline is being prescribed in the region of United States and other parts of the globe to help people stop smoking. Chantix usually functions by blocking the pleasurable effect that people experience while smoking.

Chest pain and other associated pains on the shoulder and arms

Short of breadth

Confusion and hallucination

Vision problems
