Recreational drinking is a national pastime for many and it seems that it is deemed
perfectly acceptable to drink a bottle of wine on a week night and in several times during a week, actually. But where does it turn into what could be conceived as abuse? The fact is that it can become an issue without the individual being ever aware of it.
Alcohol abuse if not careful can see the individual progress to the next stage , alcohol dependency, which is an ever worse state and one which can cause health problems if not addressed at an early enough stage. Such excessive alcohol consumption can cause such issues as liver damage, brain damage and even more potential damage if the individual is pregnant. It can also have adverse effects in other ways with personality changes such as them becoming more thoughtless or even violent.
The problems it can cause are not purely related to the individual but also to those around him. The potential problems relate to work and finance as well as social issues and it can also see the individual in some dangerous situations such as being drunk behind the wheel and losing control. The effects it can have are widespread with the ability to change an entire personality and his relationships with others.
The earlier you break the habit, the better for you and all concerned. But they need to recognise it or at least be willing to listen if it takes someone else to point it out.
Living with such a person is not the easiest of experiences. They may have sympathy for them at first but that sympathy can only last long if the individual is doing nothing about his problem. He has to realise that it not just himself being affected and fortunately, among some, that can be enough for him to confront the issue and make for an easier time for all concerned.
