Alcohol Rehab For Alcoholism
Experts agree that there is no clear reason as to why some people turn to alcoholism while others do not
. Genetics make a person more prone to alcoholism, but that is not the only cause. Some people are prone to alcoholism genetically, but other factors such as lifestyle and habits are also to blame. When a person enters into alcohol rehab, they must first admit there is a problem to begin with in order for the treatment to actually take.
Alcoholism Explained
Alcoholism has not always been an issue. Drinking alcohol does not mean a person is an alcoholic, especially since some cultures drink wine and other liquors throughout the day as part of their own ritual. When a person becomes reliant on that alcohol, however, there is a substance issue that needs to be addressed. There are some studies that have shown that drinking at least once per week can actually benefit the heart, but still every one our of 12 adults are suffering from alcoholism.
Alcoholism Symptoms
People with alcoholism are the last to recognize they have an issue. Therefore, the people around them need to diagnose and identify the symptoms in order to get them help. Some common symptoms include mood swings, issues sleeping, using alcohol to relax or sleep, headaches, flushed skin and withdrawals.
It is important to realize there is a difference between alcohol abuse and dependency. A person who is dependant on alcohol will revolve their life around the alcohol, especially in terms of when and where they will get their next drink. These types cannot function daily without alcohol and often will carry alcohol with them just to ensure they are able to have a drink when needed.
Alcohol Rehab Basics
Once a person recognizes that they have a drinking issue, the next step is to get into alcohol rehab. For insurance to cover the visit a person will need to visit their physician and be diagnosed with alcoholism or some form of alcohol dependency. Not all insurance companies cover alcohol rehab; therefore, a person should not rely or wait for their insurance to respond to rehab reimbursement requests and should be prepared to pay for it out of pocket.
In-Patient and Out-Patient Treatment
There are two options for alcohol rehab: inpatient and outpatient. Inpatient treatment is recommended, especially for people with severe alcoholism. Since inpatient care removes all temptations and helps with the withdrawal symptoms, it is more successful than outpatient treatment. For individuals who want to work and live outside of their alcohol rehab center, outpatient treatments are available, but it is recommended that anyone using outpatient alcohol rehab attend an Alcoholics Anonymous program on top of their regular therapy and treatment.
