Alicante Is Costa Blanca's Largest City

The Costa Blanca is world-renowned as a prime vacation spot

. You have probably heard about it and want to come here. Here is what you need to know as you plan your visit.

The Costa Blanca is a 200 km region that extends from the mountainous region near Javea and Denea down the Mediterranean Coast to Torrevieja. Because it has such long coastline, it is popular for its beaches and its mild weather. Naturally, it is a very popular area for summer vacationers, so be sure to book all reservations well ahead of your arrival date so you won't be disappointed. However, because the weather is so temperate, you can enjoy a vacation here any time of the year.

You will likely arrive at the Costa Blanca via the Alicante Airport where you can easily get ground transportation, whether by bus, taxi, train or rental car.

Naturally with so much sun and sand, tourism is the major industry here. Alicante is the largest city and offers a lot for tourists, including a castle, cathedrals, museums and the annual festival that takes place each June. Castell de Santa Barbara is a romantic fantasy come to life with a moats, a drawbridge, a tower and even a dungeon.

Near Alicante is the Isla Tabarca, a respite from the busy city. This is an island fishing village where you can experience lovely views of tidal pools and clear water. As with any fishing village, the seafood of the local restaurants is delicious.

Another quiet, charming spot is Villajoyosa. Chocoholics will be sure to visit this village for its main product, which is well worth the trip.

For more typical tourist activities, try Benidorm. It has a theme park, a water park and a wildlife park. It also has the most hotels of any city in Spain. It also has quite an extensive nightlife with scores of nightclubs.

Thos who love the outdoors will enjoy visiting the Natural Park of Montgo, located between Javea and Denia in the north of the Costa Blanca. This park features many rare species not found anywhere else. You will enjoy hiking, biking and even rock climbing throughout the Costa Blanca.

While most people are quite content to spend their days on the white sands of the Costa Blanca, many enjoy exploring the shoreline by boat or kayak. Tours are available. (The kayak tours include instruction but you must know how to swim.)

One of the main attractions for a visit to Spain is a bullfight. Be sure to visit one, especially the one at Javea's annual summer festival. No trip to the Costa Blanca would be complete without this Spanish tradition.

You can easily see why the Costa Blanca is so popular. What are you waiting for? Start planning your visit here today.
