Alice in Wonderland is Crazy in High Definition

Tim Burton has always been known for his creative liberties when it comes to old classics. He's kooky, he's brilliant, and at times, he's a little bit scary. When it was first announced that he would take on Alice in Wonderland in a similar fashion as the remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, some people were in awe while others in shock. No matter what the reaction, it was hard to disagree that high definition televisions would certainly reap the benefits when it was released onto DVD and On Demand on television.

That time is now here, and Alice in Wonderland starring Mia Wasikowska and Johnny Depp will be released for purchase within the next few weeks. Though not a huge hit at the box office, home sales are expected to be through the roofnot unlike those of the HD version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The reasoning behind the quick release of this movie is unknown, though Burton fans are certainly pleased. It's a film that, while it takes a happy child's tale and makes it slightly frightening, the entire family can still enjoy and remember. If it turns out it's not for you and your family, no worries just pop in the remastered classic Disney version, which is always a hit.

After about a week or two released as a DVD and BluRay disc, the movie should become available in an On Demand format through various cable and satellite TV subscriptions for those who do not own a DVD player or do not like to purchase or rent movies from megastores or video rental stores. It is one of the greatest perks of having a subscription to premium movie channels; you have nearly immediate access to new releases and old favorites. Have a marathon and compare the two versions and discuss your thoughts with friends and family. The more the merrier.

What is most interesting though, about the newer version of Alice in Wonderland, is the creative liberties it takes making it a feature film and not a cartooned version. With Burton, there will certainly be many special effects lending themselves to high definition viewing, but how these are achieved and what they represent in the movie could be troublesome for some families. Alice in Wonderland historically holds many drug references and psychedelics explaining the cat, the tea party and how she grows and shrinks after eating magic mushrooms and biscuits. The Disney version is easily able to mask this , though Burton's version may do less of a decent job. Some families may choose to screen or block the movie for young children on satellite TV parental control settings, as they feel it is inappropriate and just limit them to the Disney childhood favorite version. No matter what they watch, Alice in Wonderland is a treasure to be held and told and new television programming makes that possible.
