As a form of lighting, it is fair to say that chandeliers have been extremely popular

through the ages, from French castles of yesteryear, to the modern dwellings of current times; they have travelled through the ages like no other form of lighting. True, their popularity waxes and wanes, but it is fair to say that, currently, the chandelier is experiencing a revival. Whether they appear in period properties, or in houses on one of the many new developments, they are extremely well suited.

How, you may ask, can one style of lighting suit such a variation in styles of property, the answer is in their versatility. While the basic structure remains the same, the materials and individual embellishments from which modern manufacturers make chandeliers means that they can be adapted to a suit a wide range of settings.

There is no greater fashion statement in reference to interior lighting effects, which says opulence in quite the same manner as a chandelier. Indeed, they are a firm fixture in many of the most sophisticated and upmarket restaurants and hotels, and yet, they are affordable and perfect for anyone looking to create a lovely ambience to their living space. Since the medieval castles in which we first saw them, the chandelier has come a long way, for a start, candles have been exchanged for light bulbs, although there are sure to be manufacturers who will still make bespoke candle chandeliers.

Perhaps the modern item that is currently experiencing a revival in lighting, cannot be called a chandelier. After all, the literal meaning of the word is candleholder, and refers to light fixtures that we hang, and which have appendages for holding candles. Nonetheless, they bear a huge resemblance to the original style of their namesake and we can all tell the difference between a chandelier and other forms of lighting, but it is still an interesting fact to note. Moreover, they have come a long way since their luxurious beginnings, where in order to own such a splendid example of workmanship, one needed to be of the upper classes, nowadays, even we, the ones that must work for a living, are able to take advantage of these beautiful works of art and perhaps even own one or two.
