This pain may spread up to jaw, neck, or arms.

Once the doctor is aware well of your symptoms and has come to a conclusion that you have coronary heart disease, the doctor may advise you to do some tests to ascertain the extent of damage. One of the tests that he may order is the electrocardiogram (ECG). This test will display the electrical activities of the heart. Again a stress test may also be done on a treadmill. The heart rate and blood pressure will also be monitored during the time of taking the stress test. Another important medical test is coronary angiography. In this treatment a catheter is inserted into an artery. It catches the picture of the heart during its pumping activities.

There are various medical procedures to treat this disease. But the severity of the disease and treatment are directly dependent on each other. If the disease is less severe, the doctor will probably recommend changing the lifestyle. Many people do not want to follow the recommendation as it includes giving up of things they love. A diet which is lower in cholesterol and fat is highly advisable. Regular exercise should also be followed. Even a short exercise can reduce the chances of heart attack. Smoking and heart attack are intimately linked with each other. So, smokers can reduce the chance of heart attack drastically by quitting smoking. The patients with severe case of coronary heart disease may be recommended to undergo surgery. Coronary angioplasty is one type of surgery.
